From one extreme to another

Posted by halfwayround on October 11, 2008

Hi everyone!

It’s Jill tonight. We had to pay for the internet at our campsite, and our 24 hours runs out in 45 minutes, so it’s my turn to blog. Jonny, although eloquent and humourous…is very slow! So we decided this would be quicker.

3 days ago we were sitting in blistering sunshine in Las Vegas. Yesteray, it topped 100 degrees. Today…it snowed!!!

We spent today in Yosemite. It was cold this morning, and continued to get colder as the day went on. We took a walk to a waterfall (except there was no water - the bus driver later told us that 2 weeks ago was the first rain they had had in 6 months!)

Yes, it's a dry waterfall

Yes, it's a dry waterfall

Then we had a walk around the base of El Capitan (the 3593 ft cliff face in the park), watching the crazy, crazy people climb it. On our way back to the visitors centre on the bus, it snowed! Now, in fairness, it didn’t lie or anything, but it was fun to watch anyway!

The novelty of seeing deer wore off today, as they were everywhere! Including a big one with mad antlers sauntering across the road in front of all the cars! And in spite of all the warnings, we didn’t see any bears wanting to steal our lunch! Thankfully! There are ‘bear safe’ bins everywhere – which lock, so the bears can’t open them!

Tomorrow, we head to San Fransisco where we spend the next 3 nights. Not in Alcatraz.
